Ajith prefers Vishnuvardhan!

Now it is confirmed that Dharani will not be directing Ajith for Sivaji Productions. Industry buzz is that he had “creative differences” with the ultimate star. Ajith fans also suspected his loyalty which they feel was with “Chiyaan and Ilayathalapathy”.

Added to that Dharani told Sivaji Productions that he comes as a package along with his favourites- Vidyasagar and cameraman Gopinath. This was not acceptable for Sivaji Productions as they had already paid advances to Harris Jayaraj and a well known cameraman, who were part of the original Gautham Menon team.

The latest on the front is that Ajith is going all out to woo Vishnuvardhan, his current favourite after he gave him his biggest hit Billa. Vishnu however does not like to be rushed as he is yet to complete Sarvam, which will now release only for summer of 2009. He does not like to start a new film without the release of his earlier film.

But Sivaji Productions and Ajith can’t wait, as they want the film to start in December and release it for summer. Sources close to Vishnu says that he is yet to work out the script and is also particular like Dharani that he “comes as a package- Yuvan Shankar Raja, Nirav Shah and stunt master Thyagarajan!”

Happy birthday to Shalini Ajith

Today Kollywood’s beloved “Baby Shalini” celebrates her birthday. Shalini debuted in the film industry as a child artist and even to this day, many refer to her as Baby Shalini! She completed about 80 films as a child artist in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu!

Her first Tamil film En Bommukutti Ammavukku (remake of Malayalam film Ente Mammattikuttiyammakku) is still fresh in the minds of many avid Tamil film fans.
That is the reason Kollywood welcomed her with open arms when she returned as the heroine in Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. The film’s stupendous success shot her fame sky-high and she became the heart-throb of the youth.

A couple of years and a few Malayalam films later, she acted in Amarkalam opposite Ajith; that is when the Cupid struck and love bloomed between this beautiful angel and Ajith. They were deeply in love with each other and decided to get married as soon as possible. This cut short Shalini’s career which touched a new high following her performance in Mani Ratnam’s Alaipayuthe; she quit acting as she wanted to devote all her time to Ajith. Early this year, the couple was blessed with a daughter who is as cute as Shalini was in the days of Bommakutti Ammavukku.

Ajith and Shalini are the perfect example of a happy couple!

Ajith’s 49th film

Sivaji Productions will be producing Ajith’s 49th film and there has been a lot of speculation as to who the director would be? Things seem to be settling now and the name Vishnuvardhan appears to be final.

Vishnuvardhan directed Ajith for Billa and tasted success. He is now busy with the post-production of ‘Sarvam’ that stars Arya and Trisha. However, reports suggest that Vishnuvardhan has his thoughts on the Ajith film he is going to direct.

It has been reported that Vishnuvardhan had a thought about an action sequence and immediately called up Ajith and told him about the scene. Ajith was reportedly happy with it and had said that that he hopes the new project would be twice as stylish as ‘Billa’.

Let’s see if Ajith and Vishnuvardhan can rock once again with the new project.

Ajith hunting for a director?

Rumors were abuzz in certain section of the press that Ajith’s forthcoming movie to be produced by Sivaji Films will be churned out by Dharani and not Gautham Menon as reported initially.

A new twist seems to be happening now. Dharani may not wield the megaphone for the project and instead an intense search is on to find an apt director. Though the names of directors like Murugadoss, Vishnuvardhan and ‘Kireedom’ Vijay are being contemplated, it looks like all these directors are preoccupied with earlier commitments.

Sources say Dharani may make a film with Vikram early next year. Vikram is currently acting in Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Ravana’. Upon its completion, the actor may start a project with Dharani.

For now Ajith and his camp are reportedly hunting for a talented director for his 49th movie.

I want to act with Ajith - Sana Khan

Sana Khan, the heroine of the Simbu starrer ‘Silambattam’ has expressed her desire to act with Ajith in a film.

In an interview, the Mumbai model who is currently testing waters in Tamil Cinema, said, ‘I have been watching many Tamil films to understand the language better.  I have become a great fan of Ajith’.

Among the actresses I admire most, Trisha features right on top. I became a big fan of Ajith after watching ‘Billa’ and ‘Aegan’. ‘My dream is to do a film with the ‘Ultimate Star’, she added.

Sana Khan is thrilled that ‘Silambattam’ has come out good. My role is very good and to make my debut alongside a talented film personality like Silambarasan is a delight, she says.

Gautham parts way with Ajith!

In a sudden development, Gautham Vasudeva Menon’s contract with Sivaji Productions to direct Ajith’s next film has been terminated!

It has come as a bolt from the blue, as Gautham was busy with checking the prints of Vaaranam Aayiram and settling issues regarding the film’s Friday release!

Now the latest we hear is that Sivaji Productions has roped in Dharani to direct their Ajith venture, and shooting would start sometime in December.

Dharani has been asked to complete a script which will pander to the taste of Ajith fans, a typical mass masala.

As per our sources, trouble started brewing between Gautham and Ajith, almost a month back, over the delay in completing the script of the film. Gautham wanted to try out something different with Ajith, a realistic thriller about a killer and an extortionist.

The story was loosely based on Abu Salem- Monica Bedi affair, with Ajith playing a petty hoodlum from Tuthukudi called Sura who becomes an international criminal through extortion and kidnapping.

Later he meets a Kollywood actress Ragini to be played by Sameera Reddy, and falls in love.(hence the title Surangani). She joins him in his criminal activities (a la Bonnie and Clyde?), before a policeman (to be played by Prabhu) starts a manhunt for the deadly duo.

Everybody was kicked about the one line story, till things went awry between the star and his director. It seems Gautham’s comment at the Vaaranam Aayiram audio launch that “Surya is the most versatile actor in Kollywood” did not go down well with a section of actors in the industry.

Sources close to Ajith say that Gautham took Ajith for granted, did not pander to his star ego, and did not meet the star on a regular basis which also led to a lot of misunderstanding.

Later it was said that the story will not be lapped up by Ajith fans as their hero is shown as an extortionist, which will go against his image. So Sivaji Productions have now chosen Dharani over Gautham, as he understands the nuances of making star movies.

For Dharani who has given mega hits like Dhil, Dhool and Ghilli, it will be his first film with Ajith.

Has Ajith opted for Sura?

Film directors and actors take great pains in naming their films these days. It has to be short and catchy. Ajith is nearing half a century of movies after his ‘Aegan’ is now gearing up for his next. A stylish portrayal in ‘Aegan’ and now is his ‘Sura’.

A near miss has always prevailed between Ajith and Gautam for they couldn’t work together until now. The 49th film of Ajith is all set to be directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon. Gautam had earlier planned to name the film Surangani. However, the title had already been registered by one Suresh, who had directed a film titled Velai.

Following this, it is said that Gautam has ‘cut-short’ the film’s title from Surangani. And now it might be titled as ‘Sura’, says the sources. To be produced by Sivaji Productions, the movie will be an action-thriller, as said by the close circles to the director. The director is currently expecting the release of his ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ starring Surya on the 14th of November.

‘Aegan’ in UK

‘Aegan’ has brought in lesser amount at the UK box office than expected.
Among the Deepavali releases, Ajith’s ‘Aegan’ was one film that people did not expect would do wrong. It has big names like Raju Sundaram as director, Yuvan Shankar Raja as music composer and Suman as villain.

Nayantara’s glamour was also much spoken about. Despite having so many things going for it, the film did not do as well as expected because the director did not pay enough attention to the screenplay.

In the first week of its release, ‘Aegan’ made 91 lakhs but the returns are dropping as days go by. The film also does not have the expected welcome overseas. In the UK , it has made only 33.24 lakhs till now. It was in 25th place in the first week and has slipped to 34th place this week.

In comparison to Hindi films also running in the UK , ‘Aegan’ is in 5th place. On the whole, ‘Aegan’ is lagging far behind ‘Billa.’

Ajith’s plea

Ajith who maintains genial relationship with the city’s journo recently seems to have put forth a request to them. He has requested them not to publish his daughter’s photographs. Ajith reasoned that he did not want his daughter to be identified as an actor’s daughter, an interesting ideology. Some time ago, however, an image of Ajith holding his daughter in an event snuck its way to the media.

On the other hand, the recently held Surya - Jo’s daughter’s first birthday event was a well documented and published affair.

How Ajith missed Surangani!

Gautham Menon had decided on the name Surangani for his next film with Ajith, if sources are to be believed. However, the name seems to be already registered by Miracle Films. Surangani is expected to go on the floors some time soon. Suresh, a debutante, will wield the megaphone in addition to donning the grease paint for the lead role Surangani .
will have two heroines – Meenakshi and Padmapriya in the lead roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja will score the music for the film. It is said that Surangani will be a big budget film.
